Nashville has committed to going zero waste, and Wilmot is helping it get there.

Overview:

With the imminent closure of the landfill that receives most of Nashville’s waste, Metro Nashville Public Works and Davidson County Solid Waste Region Board are working to create a long-term Solid Waste Master Plan to achieve zero waste. The Plan contains strategies, programs and policies to help Nashville reduce waste sent to landfills to 10% of the 2017 baseline. The plan’s implementation will position Nashville as a leader in waste reduction in the Southeast.


Wilmot’s Role

Wilmot evaluated waste generation, disposal trends, policies, regulations and existing infrastructure to inform proposed strategies to ensure that recommendations are effective and actionable. Our team played a key role in assembling stakeholders for a taskforce that helped shape the Plan. We facilitated discussions at public meetings and acted as a resource for information about the Plan for the public.

Wilmot participated in the preparation of a triple bottom line analysis to identify and quantify the economic, environmental and social impacts of the plan. Our analysis considered impacts including, energy capture potential, job creation and opportunities to address food insecurity.
