Music City Center
Wilmot helped ensure Nashville’s convention center went above and beyond to achieve LEED Gold, including some of the most innovative convention space features in the country like a green roof, solar array, and rainwater capture.
Overview
Nashville needed a new convention center to complement a growing city, one large enough to accommodate 75% of the nation’s convention and visitor market. The new 2.1 million square foot Music City Center is in the heart of downtown, located strategically so Nashville can host large, city-wide conventions in the booming downtown core. The convention center creates significant economic benefit for the citizens of greater Nashville by attracting national events and incorporating sustainability in its vision.
Wilmot’s Role
Nashville’s existing city ordinance requires all new Metro buildings attain LEED Silver status, so the project called for exceptional consulting experience in sustainable large-scale construction. Representing the contractor and owner throughout the three-year project, Wilmot helped both the contractor and owner attain LEED points and helped identify green building opportunities. With attention to design and fixture selection, the project surpassed its goal of LEED Silver and was certified LEED Gold. Within its first year, the solar array reduced energy costs for the building by $23,630. In addition, LED lighting resulted in a 70% reduction in energy use, and low-flow water fixtures combined with gray water capture reduced water usage in the building by 49%.
