Titans Stadium C&D Debris Management
Overview
The Tennessee Titans' stadium represents more than just a landmark sports venue—it's a testament to environmental commitment. The open-air, natural grass stadium is situated on 105 acres along the Cumberland River's East Bank and boasts a 69,000-fan capacity.
At a time when construction and demolition (C&D) recycling was still emerging, the stadium project set a new standard for environmental responsibility in large-scale construction. The vision was clear: create a world-class sports facility that minimizes environmental impact while maximizing resource efficiency.
Wilmot’s Role
From project inception through final cleanup, Wilmot partnered with the Tennessee Stadium Group to revolutionize construction waste management. Operating in an era when C&D recycling protocols were virtually non-existent, our team designed comprehensive recycling plans and site management strategies from the ground up.
The project's sustainability achievements were groundbreaking:
Recycled over 80,000 tons of concrete, brick, and block for on-site wall backfill
Developed a materials reuse program covering:
Concrete and masonry
Structural beams
Hardware and metal
Wood materials
Cardboard
Drywall
Created a C&D debris management program for the 850-member construction crew
Implemented worker training and on-site management protocols
Achieved approximately $500,000 in project savings (equivalent to $1M adjusted for inflation in 2025)
Established a new national benchmark for material reclamation
At the time of construction, the Tennessee Titans Stadium recycling effort was unprecedented—reclaiming and reusing more material than any other U.S. construction project in history. Wilmot transformed what could have been massive waste into a model of circular economy principles, demonstrating that large-scale construction can be both economically and environmentally responsible.
