Titans Stadium C&D Debris Management

Wilmot saved the city over $500,000 by recycling C&D debris during the construction of the Titans football stadium.

Overview

The Tennessee Titans’ stadium, with a capacity of 69,000 fans, is a state-of-the-art, open-air, natural grass facility. Located on 105-acres on the East bank of the Cumberland River, the stadium is a revered Nashville landmark. Wilmot helped bring the Tennessee Titans Stadium to life in the most sustainable manner possible.

Wilmot’s Role

Wilmot was hired to work with the project’s contractor, the Tennessee Stadium Group, at project commencement and remained through final clean up. The construction of the new stadium took place at a time when C&D recycling was in its infancy, requiring all recycling plans and site protocols to be created from scratch. Wilmot recycled over 80,000 tons of concrete, brick and block to make stone to backfill the stadium walls on the site. Other reused and recycled products included: beams, hardware, metal, wood, cardboard, and drywall.

Wilmot created a C&D debris reuse, recycling and disposal program for the 850 member crew. Through training of workers and on-site management, Wilmot saved the project approximately $500,000. Stadium construction took place over a 2.5-year period and, at the time, reclaimed and reused more material than any other U.S project in history.
