Nashville Sidewalks

Overview

As the Nashville Metropolitan Area continues to grow, it is essential that city sidewalks are both accessible and safe. The Nashville and Davidson County sidewalk network covers a total of over 2,000 miles end-to-end and is a vital part of the area’s transportation system. The Wilmot “sidewalk team“ plays a key role in the construction and maintenance of the sidewalk network.

Wilmot’s Role

Wilmot collects data based on ADA-compliant sidewalk/bikeway design guidelines and reports on conditions and needs through the ArcGIS Field Maps application. Sidewalk condition reports include identifying surface breakdowns, general cracking, and overall tripping hazards to the public. Bikeway condition reports include delineator replacements, bikeway lane paint touch ups, and potential hazards to Nashville's bicyclists. Wilmot technicians also collect traffic pattern data to help prioritize specific areas for sidewalk repairs, sidewalk expansions, speed bump installations, and calculations for post-construction impact. The survey team from Wilmot enables the Nashville Department of Transportation to schedule necessary sidewalk repairs and follow up on the work for quality control. Over the long term, Wilmot’s data collection will lead to safer and more accessible sidewalks, bikeways, and streets across the Nashville Metropolitan Area
