Nashville Goes Net-Zero Energy

Overview

Following Wilmot's successful installation of 4 MW of solar for the water department, the City of Nashville chose Wilmot to help guide efforts on the City's mandate to use 100% renewable sources for electricity. The initial project entailed performing a cost-benefit analysis on 1,400 properties owned by Metro, including schools, fire stations, police stations, libraries, and community centers. The City plans to install 80 MW of solar on Metro owned buildings to cover the city’s electrical use, saving Nashville nearly $80M over the life of the project.

Results

Wilmot provided Nashville with an in-depth evaluation of all properties capable of hosting solar arrays. Wilmot then performed a cost-benefit-analysis, enabling Metro to strategically plan for solar deployment. Wilmot is currently overseeing the implementation of the project. In addition to providing clean, renewable energy, solar is the lowest form of energy, allowing local governments to take control of their energy bills and build more resilient communities. The innovative third-party model covers all financing, installation, and operating costs. This translates to zero upfront cost. Through contracts with these third parties, Metro will lock in their energy costs for the next two decades, mitigating the effects of future energy price increases.
