Overview

Duke University Medical Center, a leader in medical care, research, and education, partnered with Wilmot to tackle the challenges posed by complex waste streams in large hospital settings. The project focused on enhancing waste reduction and recycling programs, leveraging Wilmot's expertise in waste analysis to align with Duke's commitment to innovation and excellence.

Wilmot’s Role

Our collaboration with Duke University Medical Center focused on optimizing waste management practices through a comprehensive strategy that included waste audits, strategic planning, and enhanced recycling initiatives. We conducted detailed audits of the medical center and its associated buildings to accurately assess current practices and identified key areas for improvement, setting a baseline for measurable advancements. In partnership with hospital management, we set realistic yet ambitious waste reduction goals and expanded recycling programs throughout the facility, promoting sustainable practices among staff and visitors. This not only led to significant cost savings by reducing operational expenses related to waste management but also enhanced overall operational efficiency by streamlining waste handling processes. This initiative not only helped Duke University Medical Center achieve its sustainability goals but also established a benchmark in the healthcare industry for waste management, showcasing how large hospitals can effectively minimize their environmental footprint while maintaining high standards of care and safety.
