Clean Water Nashville
Overview
In 2009, Nashville Metro Water Services initiated an environmental commitment through a consent decree with federal and state agencies aimed at revitalizing Nashville's waterways. This undertaking—formally launched as Clean Water Nashville in 2012—encompasses:
Over 70 specialized infrastructure projects
A comprehensive $1.1+ billion investment program
Strategic interventions to eliminate or minimize overflows into the Cumberland River and its tributaries
Compliance with the federal Clean Water Act of 1972
Wilmot’s Role
Wilmot was tasked with implementing sustainable elements into the design and construction standards to elevate Clean Water Nashville beyond basic compliance. Wilmot developed a set of sustainable design standards to be included on every project. This checklist includes:
Native landscaping and reforestation
Green infrastructure and low impact development design
Renewable energy
Recycled and regional materials
Construction debris waste management
Public education
Community amenities
Wilmot also provided construction inspection to verify compliance with the standards and augment existing staff.
