Nashville International Airport Sustainability Plan
Overview
Nashville International Airport stands at the forefront of aviation sustainability, distinguished as one of ten airports nationwide selected by the Federal Aviation Administration for its prestigious Sustainable Master Plan Program. The airport's commitment to environmental stewardship began in 2012 with the completion of its first comprehensive Sustainability Plan, setting a precedent for forward-thinking airport management.
In 2018, recognizing the need to evolve and optimize its environmental strategies, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) asked Wilmot to update and refine its original sustainability approach. This decision underscored BNA's dedication to continuous improvement and leadership in sustainable airport operations.
Wilmot’s Role
Partnering closely with MNAA's internal sustainability team, Wilmot conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the airport's materials management practices, using the initial 2012 study as a baseline for analysis.
For the evaluation, we:
Conducted a waste characterization
Identified waste reduction opportunities through a materials market study
Developed procedural guides to implement sustainable practices
Researched potential state and local funding sources to support sustainability initiatives
Wilmot helped MNAA not only update its environmental strategy but also position itself as a leader in airport sustainability. The collaborative effort resulted in a more streamlined, effective approach to reducing environmental impact and optimizing resource management.
